Clash of the Titans is a 1981 mythological fantasy film written by Beverley Cross and directed by Desmond Davis. A critical and commercial success, it was given a contemporary makeover by Warner Bros. Pictures in 2010 [1].

Synopsis[]

When the goddess Thetis demands that his bride-to-be is sacrificed to the mighty Kraken, young demigod Perseus must find a way to defeat the creature and save his love. To this end, he embarks on a quest to bring home the head of Medusa, a fearsome Gorgon whose visage has the power to petrify anyone or anything who looks upon it; he is ably assisted in this venture by a mechanical owl, the mythical Pegasus, and an assortment of soldiers. Along the way, the group match themselves against an assortment of foes, including the Stygian Witches, giant scorpions, a two-headed dog, and the monstrous Calibos.

Behind the Scenes[]

Clash of the Titans includes extensive visual effects created by stop-motion animation legend Ray Harryhausen, although sadly the film was to be the last featuring his work, with both Harryhausen and Charles H. Schneer announcing their retirement after failing to get a planned sequel, Force of the Trojans, greenlit [2].

Adaptations[]

A novelisation of Clash of the Titans by Alan Dean Foster was released to coincide with the film and, although no screen sequel ever materialised, a four-issue comic book sequel titled Wrath of the Titans was released by TidalWave Productions in 2007 [3].

In 2010, Warner Bros. Pictures released a remake, itself proving successful enough to warrant a sequel- incidentally also titled Wrath of the Titans [3].
