The Giant Iguana was a large variant of iguana in the film One Million Years B.C.. The featured animal was played by a live actor, however its long chameleon-like tongue was animated by Ray Harryhausen.
Description[]
The giant iguana was a large non-modeled black iguana, that roamed the prehistoric deserts, hunting small easy prey. This is unlike a modern iguana, which are only vegetarians. The Giant Iguana was slightly smaller than a bus, and had a long body, a narrow tail, with spikes along the sides.
Size: 3.20 meters, Length: 28.3 meters, Weight: 20 tons.[citation needed]
Behavior[]
The giant iguana was a slow moving hunter, unlike Ceratosaurus or Allosaurus, and it probably hunted giant spiders and other weak prey in the deserts. The Giant Iguana was a ground dweller. The Giant Iguana, unlike modern lizards, hunted during the day. Modern desert lizards are usually nocturnal, and hunt at night to avoid the day's heat.
History[]
One Million Years B.C.[]
A Giant Iguana attacked Tumak. The lizard wrapped its tongue around his leg, but he bashed it off with a rock. He ran away from the lizard.
