Mighty Joe Young is a 1949 adventure film directed by Ernest B. Schoedsack which included extensive special visual effects by Ray Harryhausen, his first full-length feature film, with supervision by Willis O'Brien. Created by the same team behind 1933's King Kong, it was heavily influenced by the earlier film.

Mighty Joe Young was a gorilla taken from Africa for showbiz in Hollywood. He had thick black fur with a silverish tint like a real gorrila, with long arms and a more gentle, less frightening face than King Kong.
